Tien Kluu’nun inanılmaz yolculuğu; bot yolculuğu ile başladığı Avustralya hayatına Milletvekilli olarak devam ediyor.
Tien Kieu, bu ay ki ilk konuşmasını yapmak için Victoria Parlamentosunda ayağa kalktığında, bir çok Avustralyalının da bilmediği Avustralya milli marşın ikinci kıtasını da okudu.
İşçi Partisinden yeni Milletvekili seçilen Tien Kieu, konuşmasında burada bulunmaktan dolayı gurur duyduğunu ve Avustralya milli marşının bu ülke için kutsal olduğunu söyledi.
Federal seçimlere az kala ve son yasayla birlikte tekrar gündeme gelen botları çok yakındna tanıyan Profesör Kieu, Victoria siyasetinde eşsiz bir yolculuk sahip.
Ninnilerle Değil, Patlama Sesiyle Uyudu
Tien Kieu, bir savaş çocuğu. Annesi, Kuzey Vietnam Komünist ordusuyla savaşmak için giderken tatlandırıcı sütle beslendiğini ve ninnilerle değil, patlama sesiyle uyuduğunu söyledi.
1980’de Vietnam’da kaçan Profesör Kieu, şimdi ise 58 yaşında ve Victoria’nın South-Eastern bölgesi milletvekili. Büyük göç dalgasın da Avustralya’ya yerleşen on binlerce vatandaştan birisi.
Savaş yıllarında Kieu’un yakın akrabaları Avustralya gelmek üzere bindiği botun fazla yüklenmesinden dolayı ölen 30 kişinin arasındaydı.
Profesör Kieu, Victoria parlamentosunun süslü kırmızı odasında “Onların ölümleri sonrası onlar için yaşayacağıma yemin ettim” dedi.
Manus adası ve Nauru’daki sığınmacıların tıbbi tedavi için Avustralya’ya gelmelerini kolaylaştıracak yasanın çıkmasını ilgiyle izlediğini söyleyen profesör, “Sınırlarımızı kontrol etmek istiyoruz, ancak bunu insanlıktan ödün vermeden yapmalıyız.”
“İnsanları doğrudan buraya gelmeye teşvik etmem, çünkü bunun üstesinden geldim, biliyorum”.
“Hiç kimse insanları buraya donanımlı olmayan bir tekneye gelmeye teşvik etmeyi istemez ve bu muhtemelen onlar için başarısızlıkla sonuçlanır.”
Swinburne Üniversitesi Kuantum ve Optik Bilimi Merkezi’nde kuantum mekaniği profesörü olarak çalışan Kieu, akademik hayatının çoğunu “hesaplanamayan problemler” olarak adlandırılan konuları çözmeye çalışarak geçirdiğini söyledi.
‘Bunlar matematiksel gizemlerdir, bu yüzden bir bilgisayar bile onları çözemez.’
